Meeting between China Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Honeywell CEO on Green Development and Smart Manufacturing in the Auto Industry
Jun 24, 2024
On June 20, 2024, Fu Bingfeng, the Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), met with Vimal Kapur, the Global CEO of Honeywell, in Beijing. They had an in-depth exchange on the recent work of CAAM in fulfilling the automotive industry's commitment to the Kigali Amendment and the future policy direction, the green, sustainable, and high-quality development-related technologies of Honeywell, and the prospects and approaches for the landing, cooperation, and promotion of Honeywell's green development and intelligent manufacturing technologies in China.
Fu Bingfeng briefly introduced the basic situation of CAAM and the history of automotive air conditioning refrigerant applications in China. He pointed out that with the rapid development of China's automotive industry and the continuous growth of vehicle ownership, the use and emissions of automotive air conditioning refrigerants are also increasing. The pressure to reduce and replace HFCs refrigerants has made the technological upgrade and product iteration of automotive air conditioning refrigerants an urgent need. He hopes that Honeywell will bring its successful experience in promoting low-GWP refrigerants in the United States and Europe to China and work with CAAM to promote the smooth reduction and substitution of HFCs refrigerants in Chinese automotive air conditioning.
Vimal Kapur stated that Honeywell's HFO-1234yf refrigerant is a mature substitute for HFCs refrigerants, with the advantage of having a stable and mature supply chain. He said that all of Honeywell's HFO-1234yf refrigerants are planned to be produced in China and exported from China. At the same time, by increasing local innovation efforts, Honeywell is committed to moving from "Made in China" to "Created in China." Based on this, Honeywell is actively promoting the application of HFO-1234yf refrigerant in China and hopes to strengthen communication, exchange, and cooperation with CAAM to promote the commercial application of HFO-1234yf refrigerant in the Chinese automotive industry.
Chen Shihua said that CAAM is currently cooperating with and assisting the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to formulate the national plan for China's implementation of the Kigali Amendment, which involves the control time nodes for the reduction and substitution of HFCs, a matter of universal concern to automotive enterprises. At the same time, companies are also very concerned about the price of HFO-1234yf, hoping that Honeywell will continue to increase its investment in the Chinese market and create room for cost reduction through measures such as patent cooperation and expanding production capacity.
