🚗 Farewell to the Horizontally Opposed Engine! Porsche 718 to Launch All-Electric Version 🔋
According to foreign media reports, the classic horizontally opposed engine equipped Porsche 718 series will be discontinued next October. In its place, the 718 series will undergo a comprehensive electric transformation. There are already spy shots of its all-electric successor model, which is expected to make its global debut at the end of 2024 and will officially go on sale in 2025.
Like the 911 series, the current Porsche 718 is equipped with a classic rear-engine layout horizontally opposed engine, with a PDK dual-clutch transmission, which is the soul of Porsche sports cars. From the consumer's perspective, the 718 also has a strong relevance in design with the 911, except for the lack of a second row of seats, it is basically a reduced 911.
From the latest 718 EV spy shots, the all-electric version will adopt a design concept more inclined towards the Porsche Taycan, especially the headlight style at the front of the car, which is highly recognizable. In addition, as an entry-level sports car, the car continues the two-door two-seat layout of the 718 fuel version, offering both hardtop and convertible specifications.
As for the cockpit, the car has also been electrified like the Taycan. Not only are the dashboard and central control screen large-sized screens, but the button mechanism has also been largely changed to a touch screen design, and the electronic gear shift mechanism is more compact.
At present, it is not clear about the three-electric system of the car. Looking at the electric car platform of the Volkswagen Group, the car may use the J1 high-performance platform jointly developed by Audi and Porsche. We will continue to pay attention to more information.
