A New Dark Horse in Range-Extended SUVs?
Jul 23, 2024The new model from the Exeed brand under Chery Automobile, the Star Genesis ET, has attracted considerable attention since its launch. Some netizens have even referred to it, along with the Ideal L6 and the AITO M7, as the "Extended Range Trio," which perfectly illustrates the high expectations that netizens have for this vehicle. So, with a more advantageous entry-level price, can the comprehensive strength of the Star Genesis ET step on the Ideal L6 and punch the AITO M7, becoming another dark horse in the mid-to-large new energy SUV market? This issue of the "Home Test" will reveal the answer for you!
The vehicle is also equipped with an active grille. When driving on pure electricity, the grille will automatically close to reduce wind resistance, and when the range extender starts working, the grille will automatically open to help with the cooling of the range extender.
The overall interior design is quite warm, with a through-type air conditioning outlet and a surrounding atmosphere lamp, which enhances the sense of hierarchy. The oval steering wheel design also adds a touch of freshness to the interior atmosphere.
The tested Star Genesis ET is a 5-seater model, with a good seating space performance. The longer cushion length provides a good leg support, adding a lot of points to the comfort of riding, and the rear seats also support electric adjustment in front and back as well as angle.
The Star Genesis ET can meet the needs of daily travel in terms of storage space. There is a larger storage space under the front and rear door panels, the opening and depth of the central armrest box are relatively large, and there is a larger through-type storage space under the console with straps to fix items, which is commendable. However, it is a pity that the car is not equipped with a glove box that can lock private items.
As a mid-to-large SUV, the trunk volume of the Star Genesis ET naturally does not have to worry, three sizes of suitcases can be completely placed, and there is still a certain surplus. After folding down the second row of seats, the trunk is relatively flat, and the maximum depth can reach 2060mm. It is not inappropriate to use a mat as a double bed.
The WLTC official pure electric range of the Star Genesis ET is 161km. The first test conducted was the pure electric run dry test. Before the test, we set the air conditioning to 23 degrees automatic, the driving mode was pure electric priority + energy saving, forced pure electric start, and the kinetic energy recovery standard. During the test, we experienced high-speed roads, urban congestion roads and other sections.
Then we conducted a fuel consumption test when the battery was depleted. The test started when the battery was at 4%, the driving mode was fuel priority + energy saving, the kinetic energy recovery level was standard, and the air conditioning setting remained unchanged. Throughout the test, we also experienced high-speed and congested road conditions. The vehicle stopped the test after driving 114.2 kilometers, with an average speed of 29.7km/h, and added 9.39L of 92# gasoline. The battery was recharged from 4% to 26%. In the end, we measured the fuel consumption of the Star Genesis ET when the battery was depleted to be 8.22L/100km.
After the endurance test, we used a charging pile with a rated power of 250 kilowatts to charge the vehicle. It took a total of 65 minutes to charge the battery from 4% to 100%, and it took 25 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%. Based on the actual pure electric range and the amount of electricity charged, we calculated the average power consumption of the car to be 17.2kWh/100km.
The next test was the performance test. The Star Genesis ET involved in the test was the
